Job Embedded Collaboration Time
The Board will be considering moving to a school year calendar that will include job embedded collaboration time. Since 2014 Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools has been implementing the Response to Intervention (RTI) model at all our school sites. A very important component of the RTI model is the development of Professional Learning Communities, where teachers are given opportunity to work together improve instructional practice and services to students.
The Leadership Team explained the value of including time for professional learning collaboration and embedding it into the school year calendar. Teachers continually face challenges in their classrooms where conditions of practice continue to be characterized by the growing complexity of student needs and expectations to improve learning opportunities for all students. Professional Learning Community practices provide school staff with a way to achieve the mission of learning for all students by working together. It was explained to the Board that dedicated, frequent and ongoing collaboration is the final piece in implementing RTI throughout Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools.
The Board will discuss job embedded collaboration time further after the calendar consultation is complete on January 12, 2018. The Board will take the job embedded collaboration time calendar recommendation into account when they approve the final 2018-2019 school year calendar.
