Division Office Treaty Six Flag Raising Ceremony

Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools hosted an important historical Treaty 6 Flag Raising Ceremony on October 4,2017 at the Division Office.

Kevin Littlechild et al Drummer performed traditional drumming music with dancers from the Centennial School Leadership group performing as well.

Elder Lorraine White, provided an explanation on the origin of the flag, which combines the crosses of England, Ireland and Scotland.  In 1876 when Treaty Six was affirmed between First Nations and the Crown, each Chief who was a signatory to the Treaty was given, among other items, a Union Jack Flag and a Treaty Six Medal.
